The formerly known 40-Year Recertification program (now “milestone inspection”) is a critical part of this mission, requiring older structures to undergo detailed inspections to confirm that they remain structurally and electrically sound.

This process helps safeguard the city’s residents, businesses, and millions of visitors who rely on safe buildings every day.

Sec. 10-18(d)(3)(e).

Recertification. Recertification of buildings are required pursuant to the requirements of the Miami-Dade County Board of Rules and Appeals (BORA) standing order, and Miami-Dade County Code Chapter 8 and the Florida Building Code Administrative Rules. Building Recertification review for compliance with recertification, $276.00 fee. Any extension request by the owner of a property after receipt of a notification letter from the City that the property must prove they are in compliance with Recertification will be assessed a $500.00 for each additional three-month extension, with a maximum of two possible extensions after the original notification letter.

Sec. 10-101(a)(6).

Buildings or structures subject to the building recertification requirements in subsection 8-11(f) of the Miami-Dade County Code which the owner fails to timely respond to the notice of required inspection or fails to make all required repairs or modifications found to be necessary resulting from the recertification inspection by the deadline specified in the Code or any written extension granted by the building official, or designee, will be demolished.

Sec. 23-6 (11)(1)(A).

That the eligible historic resource will be maintained to a standard consistent with the building department's standards for "Forty (40) year recertification".
